Bengaluru Woman Escapes Attempted Rape
Bengaluru: An alleged attempted rape incident involving a woman hitchhiking in southeastern Bengaluru was reported by the police on Sunday. According to initial information, the crime took place between 1 and 1:30 a.m. near Hosur Main Road, within the jurisdiction of the HSR Layout police station.
The 21-year-old survivor reportedly asked for a lift from an unknown man on a two-wheeler. However, instead of taking her to the agreed destination, the suspect diverted to a secluded area and attempted to assault her, according to Raman Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police (East).
“The survivor has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment, and her condition is stable. An investigation is underway,” Gupta stated.
A well-informed source revealed that the survivor’s friend received an emergency alert and location from her, even though her phone was unreachable. The friend then contacted another acquaintance, who rushed to the scene and found the survivor in distress.
At the same time, another friend of the survivor also arrived at the location. The group claims they saw an unidentified man, partially clothed and bearing scratch marks on his face, fleeing the scene when they tried to apprehend him. The survivor was subsequently taken to a hospital.
The HSR Layout police have registered a case under Section 64 (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect.
